Archbishop Desmond Tutu

A former high school teacher, Bishop Tutu has spent much of his life working for equal rights for all people, especially the people in South Africa, separated by Apartheid. In 1984, Tutu was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his activism. In 1986, Tutu was named Archbishop of Cape Town. He served as president of the All Africa Conference of Churches for a decade through 1997. In his retirement, Bishop Tutu continues to work for peace.
