Alabama NAME Conference Seeking Proposals

The second annual Alabama Region 4 Conference on Multicultural Education is now seeking conference proposals through Feb. 17.  The NAME conference will be held March 30 at the University of Montevallo and will include presentations on diversity research and innovative multicultural pedagogies.

This year’s conference themes are: Educational Equity Research and Scholarship; Schooling in the Socio–Political: Immigration Reform and Social Justice Partnerships.

Teaching Tolerance Director Maureen Costello will offer the keynote address. The conference will include intensive diversity training and presentations on diversity research and innovative multicultural pedagogy. 

This conference is open to students, community members and educators who work in diverse communities and focus on issues of equity. That includes university faculty who frame their teaching and research in social justice and culturally relevant pedagogies. It’s also for K-12 educators who work with diverse students. And it’s designed for community representatives and students who focus on equity issues and social justice work. 

Conference presentations will be in 50-minute breakout sessions and may use a variety of formats including posters, workshops and formal presentations.

Proposals should address one or more of the conference themes and describe research, teaching or initiatives that reframe or restore hope for equitable and socially just opportunities to learn. Proposals must include: 

  • A session title
  • A 75- to 100-word summary of the workshop for print
  • A detailed workshop description in 500 words or less
  • A brief author biography, no more than 150 words
  • Contact information for each presenter
  • AV needs

All proposals will be accepted via email in a PDF format to the UM NAME Office at tlp@montevallo.edu. Decisions will be made by Feb. 29. Presenters receive a discounted registration rate.
