Our Spring Webinars Are All About Equity

Mark your calendar! These free PD opportunities, about 45 minutes each, will address topics like home visits, implicit bias and building empathy. We’ll also embark on part two of our popular Black Lives Matter discussion.

Our spring webinar lineup is here! The schedule includes Equity Matters, our timely four-part series that includes discussions about empathy, family engagement, implicit bias and equity literacy. We know how much equity matters, especially now—this series can help you prioritize it at your school. By popular demand, we’re also continuing this fall’s conversation about the Black Lives Matter movement.

Featuring guests from EduColorNew WayParent Teacher Home Visits Project and Denver Public Schools, Teaching Tolerance is excited to bring you these five FREE webinars in January and February.

Let’s Talk! Teaching Black Lives Matter
Tuesday, January 31, 2017, 3:30 p.m. CST (45 minutes)

We’re doing it again—this time with EduColor! This sequel to Let’s Talk! Discussing Black Lives Matter in the Classroom will review the education-related policy demands within the Movement for Black Lives’ platform. Participants will receive resources and a framework for bringing the Black Lives Matter movement into their classrooms.

Equity Matters: Confronting Implicit Bias
Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 3:30 p.m. CST (45 minutes)

Implicit biases are the subconscious biases we all have that influence how we respond to others. To create equitable classrooms, educators must acknowledge their own biases and take steps to confront them. Let’s take the first steps—together!

Equity Matters: Understand Equity Literacy

Tuesday, February, 28, 2017, 3:30 p.m. CST (45 minutes)

Throw out deficit-based approaches to interacting with students and families experiencing poverty. Instead, use the four principles of equity literacy to define what equity should look like at school. Participants will draft a school action plan to create equitable policies and practices for all students and families.
