News stories about preparations for Tuesday’s Mix It Up at Lunch Day began flooding in last week. Teachers, administrators and students have been eager to share their plans.

Here are a couple great examples:

  • Last Friday, more than 200 students at Broken Arrow High School in Tulsa, Okla., participated in a “flash mob” for unity to promote Mix It Up Day on Tuesday.
  • STOP (Stop Bullying and Teasing Other People) clubs at Durham Elementary and Tigard High School in Tigard, Ore., have teamed up to host Mix It Up Lunches dedicated to stamping out bullying.

Many schools do a lot of advanced planning. But the great thing about Mix It Up is that it takes very little groundwork. Add your school to the Mix Map today and host a more informal Mix Day. Make a school-wide announcement Tuesday morning encouraging students and staff to break out of their comfort zones and eat lunch with someone new. It’s that simple.

Give Mix a try. You—and your students—will be glad you did.
