Maureen Costello, director of Teaching Tolerance, spoke to WSFA of Montgomery, Ala., this morning about the important role programs like Mix It Up at Lunch Day play in breaking down social barriers and building positive school climate.

"Mix It Up is a positive step that schools can take to help create learning environments where students see each other as individuals and not just as members of a separate group," Costello told WFSA. "When people step out of their cliques and get to know someone, they realize just how much they have in common. It can be an important step toward creating schools where bullying and harassment don't thrive."

Mix it Up at Lunch Day is just two weeks away, but there’s still plenty of time to register and plan an event using the many Mix It Up resources available on our website.
