I have always loved to work with children. So becoming a teacher was a natural choice for me. I truly enjoy the daily interaction with my students, but putting a finger on why exactly I teach was not easy for me to articulate—until yesterday. I received a card from a parent. Her words are why I teach:
Dear Lisa,
Thank you so much for providing my daughter with an environment where she feels
safe and secure. You have empowered her to speak up for herself and for that I
am in your debt forever. I am so proud of her this week at school and it
is entirely due to you.
Much thanks!
My students may not remember the lessons on subordinate clauses or how many
gallons of water run through the Nile River every hour. But they will
remember how they felt in my class. They will remember how successful they felt
as a student and how good they felt about their abilities.
