Response to "Buttoned Down" Uniforms

I live in south Mississippi and our school district enforces school uniforms.
1) Cost per uniform range from $4.00 - $12.00 per Polo Shirt and Kahki pants cost $10.00 - $25.00. (I buy consignment, $10.00 per set!)
2) Yes, it does improve behavior. I am a school secretary and students act better. The whole school looks better. When kids are at recess, all the kids on the playground look so neat. No pants sagging, belly buttons and cleavage shining. Parents have commented that just seeing everyone dressed neatly gives them pride in our school. We do not punish children if they are not in uniform. We call the parent to bring them some. If they cannot we bring some, we have some used uniforms in a closet that we let them wear.
3) I don't know if uniforms PREVENT crimes, but you cannot identify gang memebers. But I agree, you will recognixe non-students promptly!
4) We feel our Uniform Policy helps low income children fit in. How could they afford $100 pair of jeans? Your article is rediculous. You need to investigate a little deeper!
