I'm thinking about the "sterotype threat" and the discipline gap. Steele's research fascinates me. I think we can make the leap that the "stereotype threat" applies to behavioral expectations as well as to acheivement. The idea that students might believe that societal stereotypes regarding the behavior of African American males have merit causing them to think that they cannot meet behavioral expectations of classroom and schools seems very plausible.
