In the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting, I am concerned that some young people are confused as how to feel. Let me explain. We have done a fine job in public education teaching children how to be tolerant and to love one and other. So when they read a story about a young man about their age gunned down, and the media plays it as a racial event they don't know how to react. Should they be outraged, or simply feel for a fellow young person that just lost his life. They also read stories how some people are trying to hurt others evoking the name of Trayvon. Good or bad, this is confounding to the modern young person. On the one hand they are supposed to be tolerant and embrace diversity, and on the other they are told there are double standards for racial violence. How are you all sensing young people are handling racial events in America today? Are we raising more tolerant kids, or just more racially senstive people these days.
