The three learning goals for
this section of the site:
1. Race is a recent human
invention
2. Race is about
culture, not biology
3. Race and racism
are embedded in institutions and everyday life.
I felt that the three objectives for this
section as important, it sums up the entire page. I think the most interesting
part was when the articles stated that race is not genetically traceable. The gene
that each person has does not tell whether or not if the person is black or
white only. People evolved over time so there is no way to determine the racial
construct of an individual. Racial disparities are very common in areas of
health, wealth and educational opportunities / outcome. Children who are born into
low income areas attend academically challenged school, they perform in the
lower percentile and they have less access to the resources they need to reach
the level of most achieving students. It’s said but true. As much as I want to
change this, it will take some sweat, advocating and plenty money to get those students
the proper services. I feel that all children do not have the same opportunities
so they need parents to be able to speak
up, but how will they speak up if they do not know what resources are available
to their children? It’s so much that contributes to this problem

I think it is a part of our jobs as teachers to
reach out to those parents who do not know what resources they have available
to them and I also believe that should be the first step in changing things in
our system. I feel that the more parents know and the more knowledge they have
the stronger they will feel to stand up and make a difference for their
children and future generations. Knowledge is power and I believe the more we
reach out to parents and give them the knowledge they might not already posses
that will be a HUGE step in changing things and making the education
environment a better one for everyone. Everyone needs to start
working together has a team I feel and stop leaving it everyman for themselves because
that is when we all start to fail.
