Award for Excellence in Teaching

Teaching Tolerance Award for
Excellence in Teaching

Are you dedicated to helping students become active participants in a diverse democracy?

Do you work to help students achieve a positive self-identity and to appreciate different perspectives?

Do you incorporate instructional practices that encourage students to think critically about injustice and develop skills to take action in solving problems?

Did you answer yes to these questions or know someone who exemplifies these practices? If so, we encourage you to apply—or nominate a colleague—for the 2020 Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching!

Educators must do more than simply prepare students for mandated tests; they must prepare students to live in an increasingly diverse society. Excellent anti-bias educators do this by teaching the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in diverse settings, achieve academically, work collaboratively and stand up against injustice. The 2020 Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching will recognize five educators who teach these competencies at a master level, support students to thrive in a diverse democracy and provide leadership outside of the classroom.
