Overview 

This prompt asks students to produce a narrative piece that tells about an experience from the perspective of a character, historical figure, or author. 

Follow these steps to customize this imaginary narrative task:
  1. Review the steps in the handout "Plan for Write to the Source."
  2. Review the sample task and then fill in the task template fields below the sample task.
  3. Review the handout "Narrative Writing Rubric." Adapt as necessary.

Sample task

Essential Question:  What are the effects of injustice, historically and today?

Text Title(s):  Read “The White House: A Slave’s View.”

Suggested Writing Product:  Address the question by writing a short story that tells about an experience from the point of view of Paul Jennings. Write your narrative in first person.

Additional Task Demand:  Use appropriate details and dialogue to develop the plot, setting and characters.
