    Preventing Lunch Shaming

“Lunch shaming”—when school leaders go to extreme lengths to collect overdue bills—reached a new low last week in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, when families received letters threatening to place their children in foster care. The district, which clearly didn’t have equity top of mind, has been forced to concede that the approach was a problem. As you gather with colleagues to prepare for the fall, we hope you’ll read, share and use these resources to evaluate your school’s policy on lunch debt.
