Perspectives for a Diverse Hawai'i | July 2015

This formative evaluation, conducted by Shuster Consulting, reports on the results of a curriculum pilot during which Perspectives for a Diverse America, Teaching Tolerance's literacy-based anti-bias curriculum, was implemented in select Hawai'i schools.

This report documents the results of a five-phase study designed to answer the following questions:

  1. Did the scope and nature of the Perspectives curriculum meet teachers' needs?
  2. How do teachers use Perspectives' Common Core aligned texts and strategies?
  3. What effects of using Perspectives did teachers see in their classrooms?

Taken as a whole, these case studies show what Perspectives looks like in classrooms. They also show how the curriculum achieves effects like text-generated empathy, collaboration for collective action, reduced bias and improved literacy skills.
