Overview 

This prompt asks students to compare how two texts or authors address a given question and argue which text or author makes the stronger case.

Follow these steps to customize this argument/comparison task:
  1. Review the steps in the handout "Plan for Write to the Source."
  2. Review the sample task and then fill in the task template fields below the sample task.
  3. Review the handout "Argument Writing Rubric." Adapt as necessary.

Sample task

Essential Question:  What is the most effective method to bring about social change?

Text Title(s):  Read “Why Should We March?” and “Patience is a Dirty and Nasty Word.”

Suggested Writing Product:  Write an article that compares how these speeches address this question and argues which speaker makes a stronger case. Defend your position with evidence from the text.

Additional Task Demand:  Develop your argument by including relevant personal experience.
