Overview

This prompt asks students to define the argument of a text.  

Follow these steps to customize this argument/analysis task.
  1. Review the steps in handout "Plan for Write to the Source."
  2. Review the sample task and then fill in the task template fields below the sample task.
  3. Review the handout "Argument Writing Rubric." Adapt as necessary.

Sample Task

Essential Question: How are rights related to identity?
 
Text Title(s): Read "Ain't I a Woman."
 
Suggested Writing Product: Write a letter to a first-grader that clearly discusses how an argument made by Sojourner Truth is strong. Defend your position by including at least two direct quotes from the text and explanations for what those quotes mean.
 
Additional Task Demand: Revise your work with a partner and be ready to explain how you incorporated your partner’s suggestions.
