  • Are all people created and treated as equals? Why or why not?
  • How do power and privilege shape the relationships people have with each other as well as with institutions?
  • If education is the key and the way, how can we create an equal education for everybody?
  • What problems arise when "a good education" and opportunities to study are only for some?
  • What is the difference between a person educated in rural and poor areas and one person educated in private schools? What is it that matters?
  • How can we talk about creating a better world through education where social justice is the focus, when education is not even the same for everybody and people who do not study are seen different?

Save the Last Word for Me (6-8, 9-12)

A comprehension strategy that builds speaking and listening skills through structured text-based discussion. Students record sentences from a text and then discuss their responses in small groups.

Text Graffiti

This strategy exposes students to multiple short pieces of a text before they read it in its entirety. Students read selected quotes out of context and comment on both the selection and the comments of other students. The activity ends with students reflecting on their reactions to and predictions about the text.
