Engendering Inclusivity in a Language Class

Language classrooms allow students to grapple with how gender affects their understanding of the world, but they also allow teachers to engender their own classrooms as inclusive and safe places for all students.
LEARNING PLAN

equal education

  • How do power and privilege shape the relationships people have with each other as well as with institutions?
  • If education is the key and the way, how can we create an equal education for everybody?
  • What problems arise when "a good education" and opportunities to study are only for some?
  • What is the difference between a person educated in rural and poor areas and one person educated in private schools? What is it that matters?
  • How can we talk about creating a better world through education where social justice is the focus, when education is not even the same for everybody and people who do not study are seen different?

    LEARNING PLAN

A Person is a Person No Matter the Diversity

  • How do I see myself? Is it the same way others see me?
  • What do I like about me?
  • How can I make someone else feel special?
  • How can I make sure all classmates are included?
  • How do I get to know others and allow others to get to know all of me?
  • How can I ask people about their lives and experiences in a respectful, kind and understanding way?
  • How can I live, work and play with others when we have differences?
