Jozette Martinez is a middle and high school business teacher in the heart of downtown Denver, Colorado, where she is an eighth-generation resident. She leads her eighth-grade AVID team and coaches her school’s Student Board of Education. She is also an adjunct professor in business and technology, a district trainer of teachers and a national teacher leader instructor through the Center for Teaching Quality, with a focus on social justice, equity and inclusion. Judgement of the Supreme Court of the United States in Plessy v. Ferguson

In the matter of Plessy v. Ferguson, the United States Supreme Court upheld practices that perpetuated Jim Crow segregation, declaring that “separate but equal” accommodations were legal. Nearly 60 years later, the Court overturned the ruling in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka.
